Thinking of career change is okay, but what do you do about it?
See, Firstly find all the valid reasons you are looking to quit from your current job. Tick those off because, you don’t want to feel it like a mistake later on, do you?
If that is difficult, Ive got you covered with that as well, Read this blog right here about The Right way to change Career, It gives an insight of the three essentials questions you must be asking yourself before you type away your resignation
If you are still reading this article, That shows we are over all the questions, and are all Ready for a change in career.
Is your current role fulfilling?
Think twice before looking for other job options, What exactly is it about the current job that is pushing you towards resigning?
Is it the stress?
Is it the type of work?
Is it the Boss? because if it so, I’ve got you covered again, There is a whole article I’ve written about how to Tackle a Rude Boss
How do you understand if the Current role is fulfilling your career? Ask these questions.
Does this role teach you new things everyday?
Does this role push you towards excellence or plain stress?
Does this role have anything to do with the future life you are dreaming for yourself?
If all the answers are a No, Then you clearly have an answer.
Identify if the Track you’re on meets your Professional Goals?
Better to admit you walked through the wrong door than spend your life in the wrong room
Heard that? I’m pretty sure you have, I’m only reminding you.
You see, in 2024, It isn’t about how many years you have served in a company, All that matters is What you bring to the table.
Trust me, Your degree may not matter as much, Here’s a whole blog I’ve written about how to make a career with wrong degrees pursued.
It is really all about how you can achieve a certain milestone for a company and they will be willing to pay, you will not believe what a large percentage of population is either thinking of freelancing, Freelancing as a side hustle and a few actually pursuing freelancing and growing other brands and businesses exponentially for thousand’s of dollars.
So, analyze if the current role you’re working at going to keep you in the same position next year?
Will your current role give you that “Ideal Day” you’ve alway dreamt of?
If No, Try switching. See, don’t rush, Take enough time, and I would strongly suggest you have a side hustle, Keep a hobby or a skill you Refine everyday, It could be Writing, Singing, Upskill in the current role, attend courses, seminars outside of your workplace to refine what you already know and begin consulting other businesses, Use the current knowledge to start something of your own, Once these sills are ready to be monetized, you can confidently leave your job.
Highlight your expertise and professional interests.
So, as we discussed above, about the various side hustles you can begin today, make sure, you know your passion, changing your career never always has to be about running after passion, I felt I must clear that, it is okay if you don’t know what you want to do, It is okay to love the job you do but still hate going to work, You probably don’t hate your Job, it might just be the stress it causes, so, looking for opportunities beyond a 9-5 utilizing the same skills you’ve got now, is a wise decision too.
That’s where the role of freelancing, Or coaching and consulting comes into play.
I would highly suggest, You make a profile on LinkedIn, if you already have one, Please be more active, attract your clients, make a business, or apply to Remote opportunities in senior level of your current role via the *hiring* posts from companies and not the Easy apply suggestions from LinkedIn.
Learn about the platform, about its basic algorithm, and start off in the side, if you be consistent and keep posting content, start a service based offer, You will make twice as much of your current CTC in the next 7-12 months.
Take a journal, and note down 2 types of skills you have.
First, the current Job related skills, e.g data analyses, coding, java, excel etc.
Second, a set of skills that are transferable, e.g Team management, time management, Writing, Problem solving etc..
What this does is that it gives you confidence as to what your strengths are, and if you ever require to entirely change the course of your career, The Transferable skills you’ve developed in the past Job roles will be of great help in the journey.
Conclusion
So to summarize what we talked about, If you ever look for a career change, or want to transition you’re career into what you’re passionate about, or simply want to change your career because the system of 9-5 isn’t suiting you.
You, would require proper guidance to do so, and believe me it isn’t impossible, You are Not stuck!, I have gone through the pain of 9-5 myself and I’m just here to share my personal experiences so you don’t go through what I had to.
