There’s a reason why not many choose to change thier career midlife. Many valid reasons come in our way when we actually start doing what it takes.
If you are here, reading this today, I suppose you are one of the brave people who chose to change their lives and change the narrative.
You can explore my blogs on this page, they all talk about career change and solopreneurship.
Let’s straight away dig into the biggest challenges you might have to face out of the many.
Fear of Disappointment
See, this hurdle comes along especially when you have no plan, when you quit without a plan is when you, unfortunately, spend some amount of time feeling anxious and scared, does that mean the world is ending? No!
You still have to figure out a plan and execute it.
I would never encourage anybody to quit their job without a plan unless their job is toxic in itself, or you have a greater reason to do so.
Financial constraints
The most obvious and the most common reason people fear to change career, is because of the financial constraints, See, that doesn’t give us any good reason to stay at a job we hate. I was miserable after leaving my job, but I was mentally stable and emotionally fulfilled that I finally took a stand to pursue something I Really love.
However, there are ways you can combat that.
- Make an escape plan (I’ll talk about it in detail in my next blog)
- Save for the rainy days
- Know your Freedom Number (the minimum amount you’d require to live comfortably)
- Start building your passion on the side at least 6 months before you quit your job.
- Use your current job salary to invest in your business, e.g tools, subscriptions etc…
Emotional Barriers
I have written a whole article on how to handle a career change Emotionally, Read it here
There will, definitely, be a complete emotional roller coaster when the days pass by with this thought of career transition lingering in your mind.
That is exactly, when It gets tough, emotionally getting through a career change, is a whole Mount Fuji to climb.
I get it, How? I’ve been there, you might wonder why am I even bothered to write about stuff like this, it’s because I legit had to Go through it, and I want to genuinely help anyone who’s going through it all alone. Well, I was alone! I hate leaving you alone. You can get in touch with me, I’m mostly active on LinkedIn these days.
How do you overcome these Emotional Hurdles?
First identify each of them, The king of Emotional hurdles is when it comes to “Finding Clarity”
Finding clarity
See, This can be scary I have had weeks and months of struggle to find direction myself, and today, even though I’m aware I have a long way to go, and I might discover new things to do, All I’d like to capture is what I know now, and what I wish to do now.
Let me tell you the Golden words right here “You don’t need to have it all figured out”
Yes, Simply Start!
You Learn by doing, Your head might be blank right now, but Trust me, mine was pitch dark, I took baby steps, when the path didn’t seem clear in front of me, I took even smaller steps but I made sure i was at least half an inch ahead of yesterday.
I hope that clears your doubts.
This Blog might seem very vague, But I didn’t want to go too deep into instructions and bullet points, I tried keeping the tone mellow and friendly.
