The Only Checklist you’ll Need To Start a One-Person Business
Hey, I’m Raksha and I skipped a blog last week in the midst of working on my December series on LinkedIn.
(Follow me on LinkedIn here – Raksha M )
I’ve been working relentlessly to make my business happen, To make sure I do not leave a single hour this December to squeeze out opportunities for me to endeavor.
Right from, Reaching 100s of Potential clients to Tweaking my LinkedIn strategy, to making a whole definite Plan for 2025 to start With a maturity step, intending to overcome the baby steps in the last month of this year!
So, Hey As I’ve begun my One-person Business, or you call it a sole proprietorship, or a Solopreneur, or a solo business, whatever you want to call it, My Only goal is for you to have the detailed checklist of everything I learned the hard way, all that you require to build a Business with minimum investment, without funding, without investors and a product even.
Raksha, is that even possible you ask?
I SAY A BIG YES!
What do I do?
Well, as I’ve always said, I Ditched My degree to pursue writing, and now I aspire to set a foundation for this Dream to thrive.
Building that foundation took me fifty different mistakes, twenty different trials, and ten huge and tiny failures too.
See, Preparation makes sure you win faster.
So, with that in mind, let’s get straight into this value post, where I’m going to share all that is required to Prepare for the Sole proprietorship venture.
Let’s Begin with,
The TOOLS you’ll need
- Grammarly
- Payment gateway (Stripe, Wise transfer, PayPal, etc..)
- Platform to start building an audience (Linkedin in my case)
- Notion (To document Every dang thing)
- Required Chrome extensions (x hunter, etc..)
- Google docs
- Canva (to create a portfolio)
Okay, So in no chronological order, I’ve summed up everything I used to Begin my Online Writing Business. You will eventually understand the use of each of them, or might even need some more tools.
As a solopreneur, I had to take care of payments, website design, my Schedule, and My LinkedIn strategies.
So Here I’m listing down the Main thing You’re here for.
THE CHECKLIST
1. Choose a Platform
For me, it was LinkedIn, Where I post almost every single day to build a community or an audience to who I can sell my Services to, maybe then expand to Twitter later on.
2. Know an idea of a niche
Simply saying I’m a Writer isn’t going to get you business, Try writing to practice every space of writing for example Technical writing, Blog posts, Newsletters, Emails, Copywriting.
Learn frameworks and practice different niche writings to understand which one you enjoy.
And then finalize or tweak your final Offer to start a business.
Focus on building a skill in the first 3 months and then make a business.
3. Have an Offer
Now that you’ve finalized a niche, for example, Mine is Copywriting, I Focus on writing Email campaigns. For this, I didn’t just have to learn copywriting fundamentals but also study marketing rules.
Make an irresistible offer, and keep talking about it, make selfless efforts to market yourself, and do not fear attention, Nobody really cares about you.
Don’t market to gain customers in the beginning but market to lose fear of attention.
Only expect to become undeniably shameless to market yourself, Learn persuasive ways to Not feel salesly, and feel comfortable repeating yourself.
Once you’re over everybody else’s opinions and the fear of selling.
You are now ready to make a sale.
4. Keep simple Processes for your clients
Once a Client accepts your offer, make it very simple for him to make an easy payment through a link or QR code, or a payment checkout gateway into your website. Make it VERY VERY Simple!
Send me a visual roadmap that could help him understand what you’re going to do.
Keep him/her updated with every step you take forward during the tenure of working together.
5. Upgrade to a Packaged Offer
For longer-term benefits, security and potential partnership,
Make packages out of your offer including the tenure of work, like a 6-month Package or 10-month Package, etc…
Do this after you’ve accumulated some experience, and have collected enough testimonials and reviews to show your credibility.
6. Build an email list
Start with building an email list, because, no matter how many followers you grow to on social media, the email list will always be your loyal community, and you kind of hold control over them.
You can create an irresistible value like a digital product, checklist, or email course to give away only so you can passively build the list much faster while you provide some free value.
That was it.
I hope you found it helpful.
