coming back to the three questions, here they are. Your WHY? HOW? WHEN?
THE WHY?
Grab a book and a pen, jot down each item in this list, and everything else that is bothering you in the current job, to inspire you, the list could look something like this.
I am Unhappy because..
- My salary is too low to support my family
- The time I trade for the Money I recieve isn’t satisfying.
- Is my health being looked after? (This one’s important! You might have to spend half your annual income correcting your health if you f**k up your back travelling all the way, or sitting too much)
- Am I serving my company with all the promises I’ve made during my interview?
- Am I the right fit for the role I’m serving with the kind of mental health crisis I’m going through?
- Is this my Passion?
Okay so, those were your questions, you can definitely add and modify your list.
Now we come to the next Big question.
THE HOW? (To see a change)
Now, if you are clear about what you want to pursue and are clear about quitting your Job.
How do you think you will achieve what you want to achieve?
There are almost tons of Advices out there for us to choose from, I’m going to share my strategy here, the exact Map I had curated to start off my journey, So, after working in a healthcare setup for almost 2.8 years, I didn’t even complete 3 years, I did not consider that because I just didn’t want to waste anymore time after I found out what I wanted to do. It was Now or Never kind of situation. If I had continued with that job role, all I could see is, myself sitting in front of the HR once yearly to discuss why I deserve that 2% raise for the whole a** year of the work I did. That hurt my ego, and moreover I didn’t want to miss a chance of growing 10X by the time I reach my appraisal date.
Find your route, Find the ‘How’ before you start off. You Mapping out your journey would give you an immense confidence boost as you see how clear your dream is.
Here’s my Personal Journey Map
Here’s the roughly mapped out journey of mine when I wanted to establish myself as a freelance content writer, and keeping a Goal of finding enough time to write my Novels.
here it goes…
- Scheduled a slot for my passion, every single day
- Wrote articles online every single day, at 7 am in the morning, (I did have days where I wrote at 9pm as well, so don’t beat yourself up)
- Pinned 5 pins on Pinterest every single day.
- Made a linkedin profile, started posting and boosting my reach.
- Published one post every single day
- Spent time to learn resources (took free and paid courses required, in my case I took a Google coursera course about digital marketing and e-commerse)
- Made a list of the transferable skills I could utilise from my current job that’d help me in the future role such as, time management, pitching clients effectively, a little bit of sales, documentation and organization, Money managements.
- Reached out to people, on linkedin, joined WhatsApp groups with people in the same field. DMed important people on linkedin for guidance on how to pitch and whom to pitch.
Setting up a Map like this helped me see myself in the year to come. I decided to go fully in and leave the results to the days and months to come.
Consistency was the challenge, but I faced it, I convinced myself that there is NO other option! I have no reasons to back out.
In the middle of the venture almost 3 months into the process, I had been seeing gradual results but no Money yet, and it literally felt like I was dragging myself amidst of a hot desert, just with the hope the other end would be beautiful. I decided to wait.
Here’s a guide you can do it yourself. I will also provide necessary links to help you out, read till the end to not miss out on all helpful resources I will be providing
Self Assessment
Basically, Know yourself. Know what interests you, Know how well you manage certain things in life, Know your strengths (like, Finishing a certain task faster than others, or an excellent command on the language or even time management skills, your storytelling skills etc.), Know your weaknesses (Are you too emotional, what is your tolerance level, what are the triggers that weaken you and make you unproductive for a while) Knowing these Raw qualities of yourself truly helps you choose the best job.
Here’s a tool I’m mentioning that would help you assess yourself with just a few clicks and help you navigate your career needs, Career assessment tool
Networking
Networking! This is the best and the most effective form of Marketing, Growth, Business tactic, Personal branding etc.
Networking could truly transform your life because, relationship building is a slow but an impactfull process to put yourself out there.
I cannot stress enough on how much it is of value, because if you imagine simply posting content is like sprinkling sugar on the floor, and the audience would pile up like ants. Nope! Sorry to dissapoint but that is definitely not how it works.
People need connections, Without connections or emotional triggers, those posts are just Entertainment.
Here are a few very useful tools to help you with the exposure you need.
WhatsApp Groups
Factbook Groups
Email lists
Do it on a daily basis, and as we spoke about making a routine? We spoke about consistency? That applies here as well, Do not feel tired of connecting, commenting, posting every single day, it takes you less than 30 mins on a daily basis to interact with a bunch of people. Drop them interesting comments, Be on your audiences mind everytime!
Pro Tip : Repeat your presence, Repetitive actions are most powerful and an underrated tool for marketing. Show Up for them every single time they open their Feeds, But avoid spamming. You can also use a tactic of mentioning what you do, at the bottom of every post you write, so the wider audience it reaches, they know what you offer, (because, the internet is flooded with impatient patient, they wouldn’t have the time to visit your profile to check what you do, so please mention in every post, make it your template)
THE WHEN?
RIGHT TIME!!
When is the Right time? Must be the Trickiest question of the decade. When will you see a change would be the real question? The change is, Money! To answer that question you NEED to ACT NOW!!!
I could’ve waited for a 6 more months to complete over year, and sit for my appraisal and maybe then left the job to pursue Writing, but I chose those precious 6 months to work on my craft with the undivided attention and focus and grow.
Basically, when we say we are expecting success or a goal achievement, we are clearly talking about Financial success. A littleoney coming in if suppose you have decided to freelance, like me? Then definitely a certain amount of money would boost my confidence and let the money come in.

What does that tell us about our own ventures?

Have to the courage to be a part of the minority that the data talks about! Be somebody Big and influence people to be part of the successful percentage and let us all succeed together and make the majority percentage the successful one!

- Convincing closed ones (Maybe not huge challenge, but for some, especially somebody like me who chose a completely different path altogether, I left my healthcare job for Writing!)
