WHAT TO BECOME, WHEN I’M OLDER? ULTIMATE CAREER GUIDANCE
Yes, the so called agents who came for career guidance, weren’t any genuine gurus or people who actually cared about our interests and career choice.
We all know the age is a naïve one when we had just passed out high school. That was the right time for these agents to fish us and allocate us to many different courses that they thought would benefit our future.
Nobody speaks about how we are made to feel, by the career counsellors, our parents and society about what has a good scope and what is a secured job and what exactly we need to expect from our lives
NOBODY ever told us how our life would look like on a daily basis. What are the tasks that we need to carry out every single day, and if we are ready to accept that as a bigger piece of our 24hr precious day or not.
There are of course several jobs and careers you can pursue and I’ve always believed a Human being can always learn and unlearn many things and mold him/her self into whatever tasks given in hand.
But that doesn’t mean we should be doing any random thing to earn a living just because we can. If it doesn’t connect with your soul or your purpose. Then it’s a clear waste of time that just pays your bills.
Whom are you working for? What are you investing your 8 hours time in everyday? Have you ever asked that question. If yes then you must be somebody who’s aware of the situation but perhaps cannot leave their current job due to whatever reasons, You are not alone.
I’ve gone through the same thing. Doing something just because I could with ease. But I wasn’t feeling satisfied even after 3 years of experience in the same field. My passion was so clear to me, which was ‘writing’, but I was just so confused because writing wasn’t going to make me money immediately so I needed the job.
I continued working and invested whatever time I got in writing and completing my novel.
If You are a student and are confused about your career please read this.
If you have been an experienced employee who feels helpless after all these years working in a particular area. Its never ever too late to change or pursue your dreams. Do not let guilt crawl onto your minds just because you gave so much time to your current profile.
You have taken decisions with the best of your knowledge then, and now you know different. So consider forgiving yourself and starting over. Maybe with a backup or maybe continue your current job and think of quitting later after working on your passion during off duty hours. Its all about how you utilize your golden hour (the time you get off the regular duty)
Tip: Always make sure you find an experienced career counsellor, or explore all the options, sometimes we only acquire limited knowledge in the amount of opportunities we have around your field of interest. Research is key.
Conclusion: Remember, there’s not always right and wrong, segregate everything as suitable or unsuitable. Do not worry about being right always. Just make sure you save as much time as possible and keep making enough money somehow to support your dream.
So, what do you do after your 9-5?
